Winter Round Voyage Itineray
Day 1 - UK - Bergen (Norway)
Fly from the UK to Bergen and embark your ship. Bergen is the gateway to the fjords and surrounded by its famed seven mountains. Cruise north along the Hjeltefjord, the same route the Vikings once sailed to the Shetland Islands and beyond. (D)
Day 2 - Alesund
Wake up early the next day and take advantage of the breathtaking beauty of the Nordfjord. Cruise past the West Cape where you will experience the open sea. Continue through skerries and islands before arriving in Alesund. Enjoy an enlightening presentation about the magical Northern Lights on board. (B, L, D)
Day 3 - Trondheim - Rorvik
Wake up in Trondheim. There is a choice of excursions available in Trondheim: enjoy a guided tour of the Nidaros Cathedral; kayak on the River Nid or cycle through the Bakkland district. This afternoon, cruise past the Kjeungskjaer lighthouse and several beautiful islets. Arrive in Rorvik this evening. (B, L, D)
Day 4 - Lofoten Islands
Bring above the Arctic Circle provides the best chance of witnessing the magical Northern Lights. Cruise along the coast of Helgeland up to Bodo. Late afternoon, the charming Lofoten Islands appear on the horizon. Enjoy a presentation about the Aurora Borealis on board, before cruising through the narrow Raftsund and stopping at the entrance to the Trollfjord. Hear the story of The Battle of Trollfjord which took place in the winter of 1890. (B, L, D)
Day 5 - Tromso
Perhaps enjoy a thrilling husky dog sledge ride during your time in Tromso. After a fascinating day in Tromso, the ship continues north. Join the Captain on deck to taste stockfish and keep your eyes peeled for the Northern Lights. (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Hammerfest - Honningsvag
The ship crosses the 71st parallel on our journey towards the North Cape. After early stops in Hammerfest and Havoysund before arriving in Honningsvag, gateway to the North Cape. Continue north into the heartland of the indigenous Sami people, passing their ancient sacred site, Finnkirka en route to the fishing village of Kjollefjord. Perhaps join the snowmobile trip to one of Europe's most exciting natural areas. (B, L, D)
Day 7 - Kirkenes - Berlevag
Arrive in Kirkenes after breakfast. The Russian border is close by so road signs are written in both Norwegian and Russian. There is a superb selection of optional excursions, including snowmobiling and a dog sledge adventure. The ship begins its journey south and the ports previously visited by night on the northbound voyage are now seen by day. Enjoy a presentation on Pomor trade history on board. Weather permitting, there may be the opportunity to experience ice bathing in the Arctic Ocean. Local Arctic divers will give a lecture on deck about life in the Ocean. The ship then continues along the Varanger peninsula to Batsfjord before reaching Berlevag. (B, L, D)
Day 8 - Mehamn - Hammerfest - Tromso
During the night, we dock at Mehamn where it is possible to join a snowmobile trip. Arrive in Honningsvag and perhaps take the optional excursion to the North Cape and hidden gems of Finnmark, before rejoining the ship and heading to Hammerfest where you can participate in optional excursions. There is a short introduction to Melkoya, the northernmost natural gas terminal on board. The ship cruises south to Oksfjord. The crew will teach you how to tie maritime knots on deck. Arrive in Tromso, the gateway to the Arctic, just in time to enjoy an optional Midnight Concert at the Arctic Cathedral. (B, L, D)
Day 9 - Harstad - Stamsund
Arrive in Harstad and perhaps join the Taste of Vesteralen excursion or enjoy a spectacular whale watching experience. The ship then cruises via Sortland to Stokmarknes, where Hurtigruten was founded. To celebrate the fishing history of the region, the chef shows how to fillet the catch of the day. Continue to Trollfjord, where there is an optional sea eagle excursion, before cruising to Svolvaer. Stamsund is today's final port of call. Admire the majestic peaks of the Lofoten wall. The ship departs this evening for the mainland. (B, L, D)
Day 10 - Arctic Circle - Seven Sisters
Crossing the Arctic Circle is a rite of passage. Celebrate with Arctic traditions on deck. Another highlight is cruising past the Seven Sisters mountain range. Stop at the old trading post of Nesna before cruising to Sandnessjoen. (B, L, D)
Day 11 - Trondheim
Explore the fascinating city of Trondheim, before rejoinng the ship and cruising out of the majestic Trondheimsfjord. Stop at Kristiansund, regarded as Norway's cured cod capital. Perhaps take the optional excursion to the Atlantic Road. Back on board, cruise the open sea to Molde and admire the beautiful Romsdal Alps. (B, L, D)
Day 12 - Bergen - UK
During the deck, the ship will call at Alesund, Torvik and Maloy. Before arriving in Bergen, make a call at the town of Floro and navigate the estuary of the mighty Sognefjord. Finally, arrive in Bergen, disembark and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
