Northern Lights in Norway Itinerary

Day 1 - London Tilbury (UK)

Embark Magellan in London Tilbury.

Day 2 - Rotterdam (Netherlands)

Rotterdam's architecture is an intriguing mix of old and new. The city was founded in 1328 and today modern glass skyscrapers stand side-by-side with buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Day 3 - At Sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 4 - Olden (Norway)

The village of Olden is situated at the end of the innermost arm of the mighty Nordfjord. Steep mountains tower on both sides of the valley, making the village of Olden one of the most charming and idyllic in Western Norway with the opportunity to visit the Briksdal Glacier.

Day 5 - Kristiansund

Kristiansund is built across four islands connect by bridges. Famed for its Salted Cod, known as 'Clipfish', it owes it's prosperity and growth to the locals who were producing and exporting the product as far back as 1690. There are various interesting scultures scattered around the town, including "The end of the journey", in memory of the 18 Jews from Kiristiansund, killed in Austwitz. It is also the gateway to the Atlantic Road, one of the world's most scenic roads, offering amazing views and a journey you will never forget.

Day 6 - At Sea

Day 7 - Alta

Alta is the largest town in Finnmark and located on the banks of the Alta River, popular for salmon fishing. The town has three centres. Bossekop is traditional, Elvebakken is home to the airport and harbour, and the new town features a variety of shops. Large areas of woodland surround the town which is one of the best places to see the magical Northern Lights.

Day 8 - Honningsvag

Honningsvaag is one of the smallest cities in Norway and lies on the south-eastern side of Mageroya island in the Barents Sea. It is the starting point of excursions to the dramatic North Cape.

Day 9 - Tromso

Tromso is located around 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle and lays claim to the world's northernmost university, cathedral and brewery. The cable car ride to the summit of Mount Storsteinen offers stunning views of the city, which is built on two islands. The Arctic Cathedral is one of the landmarks of Tromso and The Polar Museum is just one of the city's museums.

Day 10 - At Sea

Day 11 - Trondheim

Explore Trondheim, Norways first capital with its low timbered buildings, charming alleys and picturesque wooden bridge. The city is home to the gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral, the nations finest medieval building.

Day 12 - Andalsnes

Andalsnes is located at the end of Romsdalfjord at the mouth of the Rauma River. The river attracted British aristocrats at the end of the 19th century. Today, it is the administrative centre of Rauma and the start of the Rauma Line, a vintage steam train journey. Perhaps take the optional excursion along the winding Troll Path Road.

Day 13 - Bergen

Bergen is beautifully located against a backdrop of seven mountains. Perhaps take the funicular ride to the summit of Mount Floien for panoramic views of Bergen, or explore the traditional wooden buildings of the colourful Bryggen wharf which house souvenir shops.

Day 14 - At Sea

Day 15 - London Tilbury

Disembark Magellan in London Tilbury.
